Blues and Whites

Simple elegance, expressed through the timeless language of color, defines this project. In this traditional home, a carefully curated palette of blues and whites masterfully evokes the three classic elements: earth, air, and water, creating a serene and harmonious living environment.

The foundation of the design lies in a predominantly white palette, which washes through the many rooms, fostering a light and airy feeling of tranquility. This expansive white acts as a canvas, allowing the introduction of deeper, more evocative hues to truly resonate.

Enter the blues – rich and profound, they bring the contrasting yet complementary essence of water, mirroring the vast expanse of the sky and the shimmering surface of the nearby lake. These shades of blue add depth and visual interest, grounding the ethereal quality of the white.

Connecting the airy blues and serene whites to the earth are the natural browns of the wood floors. Their warm tones provide a sense of stability and organic connection. Furthermore, the subtle grays and earthy browns found in the stone fireplaces act as anchors, firmly rooting the elements of air and water to the solid ground, creating a sense of balance and permanence.

Imagine settling into this space on a cool Traverse City evening. All that's needed is the crackling warmth of a cozy fire in the hearth to truly feel the presence of all of nature's elements embraced within these walls.

This project beautifully exemplifies Kitchen Choreography's timeless design approach. Stemming from the principles of symmetry, balance, and the graceful curved lines of the 18th and 19th centuries, our designs are anything but old-fashioned. We wholeheartedly embrace functionality – ensuring practicality and accessibility in every detail – but always with a touch of flair and noteworthy accents. In this home, the blues and whites themselves act as significant accents against the neutral backdrop. This allows for the potential introduction of colorful artwork and furnishings that can stand out and add further personality to these heirloom-quality, up-to-date spaces. This is the art of timeless design: creating spaces that feel both classic and refreshingly current.
